Dancer of the Month September

Nicolette Miller

Many of you will remember Nicolette who was a student at Allesley before returning to America in 1998. During her time at Allesley she showed both great enthusiasm and promising ability in her dancing with a passion for performing. Some may also recognise her face from the BBO Primary and Grade 1 video as during her time at Allesley she was selected to record the official syllabus video. Here is a picture of Nicolette in the UK in her character solo costume and a quick resume of what she has been up to since then.

Nicolette and her parents now live in a small town of 8000 people called Saline in the State of Michigan . The winters are very cold with lots of snow and the summers get very hot. School is very different and Nicolette goes to school for 9 months with very few breaks and then gets 3 month off in the summer. She has lost her English accent but her teachers say that when reads out loud in class it comes back loud and clear.

Nicolette loves to dance, draw, sing and watch scary movies. One of her favourite things in the world is to ride roller coasters. She lives 1 hours drive from a thrill park called Cedar Point that holds many world records for the most, highest, and fastest roller coasters. Last month Nicolette and her father rode the newest one. It goes 120 Miles per hour and is 410 feet tall, it is called Top Thrill Dragster.

Nicolette has many happy memories of the England . She was very entranced by the castles. She made many friends and keeps in touch with some. She remembers her house in England and of course her most lasting memory of England is one she took home with her. Her Boxer Dog Lucky.

Nicolette attends the Randazzo Dance Academy and the year after returning from England she was chosen to appear as Clara in their production of ‘The Nutcracker'.

She studies Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Mime and performs regularly with the Ypsilanti Area Dancers.

This year Nicolette started dancing on point – which is called ‘Toe Dancing' in the USA . She was also accepted to the Virginia School of the Arts Summer Dance Program in Lynchburg , Virginia which ran for the whole summer.

Nicolette has made up her mind that she would like to go to a full time dance academic high school and is also looking to come to a summer dance programme in the UK next year and plans to drop in to say hello. We can't wait to see her again.

‘We have very fond memories of Allesley and Mrs. Pughe. Allesley has given Nicolette a confidence and discipline that she will never lose. These are two attributes that make her stand out in her American dance studio. She has a passion for dance and performing that was instilled by Mrs. Pughe. We feel that if were not for her time at Allesley, Nicolette would not have come this far in so short a time.'
