Dancer of the Month January & February
Amy Young
Hi my name is Amy Young and I am 13 years of age. I started dancing lessons when I was 2 years old, but changed to Allesley School of Dancing when I was 6 years old in 1996. I take Ballet Classes with Mrs Pughe, Tap and Musical Theatre with Lizzie and Jazz with Jo Denham.
I enjoy all of the classes very much but my favourite is Ballet. This year I gained honours in my grade 5 ballet and tap examinations.

I have made many friends at the school and have experienced numerous opportunities during my time at Mrs. Pughe's Dance School . At 6 years of age I demonstrated the BBO ‘s new ballet syllabus. This took place in London with an audience of Dance Teachers from all over the World. At the age of 8, I was privileged to be one of four students who were selected to make the grade 1 and 2 BBO Ballet syllabus video.

In 1999 I successfully auditioned and became a Junior Associate of the Royal Ballet School in Birmingham . The same year I became a Junior Scholar with the British Ballet Organization, training in London once a month. I have recently been promoted to a Senior Scholar and so I continue my monthly classes in London .

I have attended the BBO's Ballet Concourse for 4 years and was awarded the “ Espinosa Ballet Cup” for showing promising potential which was presented to me at “White Lodge” in Richmond Park by Wayne Sleep.

In February of last year I auditioned for the English Youth Ballet. I was thrilled to receive a full Scholarship and to be chosen to play the lead role of “Clara” in the Nutcracker Ballet. I was very excited to be playing this role especially when I received very good reviews.
Over the years I have competed in many festivals and competitions and have danced and sung in charity performances. I have danced with my friends in troupes but have also been lucky enough to win quite a few gold medals for my tap and ballet solos. Last year I took part in a fashion show where I modelled a new range of leotards at the Theatre Museum in Covent Garden, London .

When I am not dancing I enjoy trampolining, playing netball, reading, and listening to all kinds of music. I attend Stoke Park Secondary School and my favourite subjects are English, French, P.E, Dance, Drama, Geography and Music.
I am in a year 9 rock band and play the drums and sing.

I would like to thank everybody who has supported me especially My Mother and Mrs Pughe. I still have a number of years left at Allesley to complete my training and then my dream is to be accepted at a top London School and eventually make my career as a dancer.

I look forward to the challenges, experiences and future friendships that are ahead.
